Forever in our hearts~

My time in life was not easy. I was hit by a car and left for dead. When I got my wits about me I realized I could not use my rear legs. So I drug myself to a house an rested till someone would help me. A woman came out of the house an gathered me up an took me to the clinic to be put to sleep.  When we were waiting at the clinic another woman came to me and asked - what happened to your dog? She told her story an I was given up to Bonnie.  That night we drove up to the mountains to a house which she called the Holiday Inn - SatoCity. I was welcomed by many dogs an pups. The next day she put me in a wheelchair an I was given a second chance at life. The freedom in the wheelchair let me go outside an sniff around or take a sunbath. Several times Bonnie took me to Public Events as an Ambassador for the Rescue. One time a newspaper reporter came an took many pictures of all my dog an puppy friends, an put us in the newspaper. People would drive up to the gate an ask to see me - SCOOTER the cute quirky lil' poodle in the wheelchair. What a GREAT LIFE I had with Bonnie she loved me so much and all the other people that entered my life at the Rescue.   Now my journey has taken another turn as I cross the Rainbow Bridge and will wait for Bonnie.
Sweet Dana~

Carolina was without a doubt a shelter favorite.  She was rescued from situation where she was kept crated night and day for breeding.  She filled our hearts with so much laughter watching her run and play with the others like a puppy.  She will be deeply missed and will forever have a special place in all of our hearts.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that we had to put CD to sleep last Thursday. He collapsed after a visit to the vets to figure out why he was losing weight and not eating. I rushed him back to the vets and after some emergency resucitation and X-rays they found he had a massive tumor in his abdomen. We didn't want to pursue all sorts of uncomfortable test and procedures during his last days and at the stage he was at he was at he most likely wouldn't have made it through the night. I can guarentee you all that it was the most peaceful and gentle passing. We are of course devastated, but also relieved that he lived such a wonderful life with us. In the last month he spent most the time laying out in the sun with the cat, getting hand-fed chicken burgers, camping with us and at the dog park just the day before we said goodbye. Thank you all for being such vital parts of his life and truly seeing him for the beautiful guy he was.
Sincerely, Liz

July 2011~  Do not shed tears for me....for I was a very lucky Boxer dog to have been given a second chance at a great life with my SCAR family.  When I was surrendered at a local shelter on the island, I was to be put to sleep because I was deaf.  Luckily, a wonderful friend of the rescue came to my aid.  She was a veterinarian and knew that I could have a full life with the right home.  It was 2002 and I was only 2 1/2 years old.  My life was far from over....Bonnie and Ronda brought me back to the rescue where I met so many friends fighting through all levels of abuse and neglect.  Some were in horrible accidents and had lost a leg or an eye, some were thrown out of their homes because they were simply too OLD and some were deaf just like me.  Bonnie called me "PETE" and we communicated with hand signals.  She said that I reminded her of a dog that had a patch over his eye and hung out with a gang of kids called the Lil' Rascals.  I was so happy at this home/rescue.  The pups called me Uncle Pete an the other dogs - Hey Pete.  I was a good hearted guy to all that came through that gate.  I lived another 9 years at this home and was given a second chance that so many truly deserve.  I was very lucky!  Now I take my journey to find the Rainbow Bridge and will be waiting for Bonnie when her time comes .  Thank you to everyone that loved me and allowed me to return the favor.  Pete~

Mason....wonderful Mason!

he had more than most dogs in his condition..........his family gave him a wonderful life.......they made his time on earth worthwhile for him and for them........D
To all the Mason fan club members, get your tissues ready. Mason had emergency surgery on New Years Day for a neurogenic bladder. (Due to his paralysis we could not get his bladder completely voided well enough. So the bladder wall became very inflamed & was bleeding)  He came through the surgery very well. The sad part is his kidneys sustained a great deal of damage. Three weeks after his surgery on Saturday the 22nd we lost him. It just never gets easier no matter how many times you have to say good bye.

A Tribute to a Dog ~ by Senator George Vest...1870
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one who never deserts him, the one who never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog.  A mans dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, and in health and in sickness.

After being loyal to his family for years, Crow was abandoned on a main highway.  They also neglected his welfare by not supplying him with heartworm prevention which, in turn, took his life.  The shelter did all they could medically and emotionally for his treatment and recovery but he had been neglected for too long...he lost the battle.
PLEASE, properly care for your pet/friend by giving them proper veterinarian care.
Crow was one of the greats.

Joanie
Joannie could simply not overcome her start in life.  In the end, she was surrounded by love and that is our comfort.

Inca
My Sweet Inca,
My time with you was way too short according to my standards, even though I was lucky to have you for six years.  No one could believe that you were a rescue that was left to live on your own on the streets.  Yet you still gave so much love to everyone you met.  You touched a lot of individuals and will be deeply missed by all.  ~ Nina

Kahlua

In loving memory of a special girl.  She and her pups were rescued off the streets of Puerto Rico, than adopted by a family and was so dearly loved.  Of her 3 boxes of toys, 1 was sent to Puerto Rico so the next lucky rescues could enjoy her bounty.  The other 2 were sent to state rescues in her honor.

COCHISE ~ There will never be another
like you, my friend. Without your unconditional love and support, my days will dim.

Sophie~
We were blessed to have had her and wish it could have been for much, much longer.
 ~ The Knox family

A puppy was born back in January 2008 by the docks in Puerto Rico, not
an ideal place for a pup to start his life. The docks are where a lot of pups end up mutilated in fishing machinery as they try to get food. The pup was given the name Docker hence being saved from the docks.  He was brought into a loving home in Puerto Rico with his foster mom Deb. Very shy pup but very loving to the people who were consistent in his life. Deb and Docker became great friends and to let her know this he would give her nose bumps.  Docker became our best friend and the best family dog you could ever hope for and or dream of.   Docker was diagnosed with distemper, a deadly and incurable disease.  It is extremely sad news that docker's health has decreased and he has been laid to rest.  My best friend you will be missed!
