Meet our Sanctuary Rescues~ January 2012
| Sky was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico and suffered from her struggles. She is a distemper survivor and suffers from eye spasms. She's a real sweetheart and has a forever home with us as long as she needs.
| Rescued in the center of the island at a recycling station. After several weeks at the rescue we realizes she was more than malnourished, she was pregnant and her stillborn pups would follow. Her vet evaluation showed only one functional lung. She shadows Bonnie and is happy living out her life in our care.
| Duchess is a member of our senior sanctuary team. She's overcome serious medical issues to embrace a healthy life. She will have a home with us until her last days.
| Smiley was rescued with her 8 babies in tow and it didn't take long for her to win our hearts. She was given her name because of her ability to grin from ear to ear when she's happy. Smiley is 2 years of age and will be with us for as long as she needs. She's undergoing heartworm treatment which can take months to eradicate.
| Apollo is working on his level of trust with those he doesn't know. He still needs time to get to know you before he can give you his heart. Until he makes progress in this area, he will forever have a home with us. He's a loyal and beautiful Boxer who knows that he is loved.
| Beba |
Beba was thrown into a dumpster and left to die. She has only known cruelty, but is now in our care and getting another chance at life. For $20 a month you can provide Beba or any of our sanctuary dogs with the gift of food, shelter and the medical help they need. Your gifts make an impact in their lives and allow us the opportunity to continue their care.
| My name is Junior. I'm a deaf, epileptic senior who now has a home at Second Chance. I was left at the local vet for euthenasia because I was not fit for "adoption" with my obstacles. Luckily, my fate changed with one wonderful woman, Bonnie. I'm loved, cared for and protected. Please sponsor me!
| Meet Van Gough! Through a string of desperate attempts by a tourist to rescue him, he made his way to Second Chance. After life on the streets for 9 years, he's safe. He's surrounded by friends and has a home with us as he undergoes his heartworm treatment. He has a long road ahead of him. A donation in his name will ensure that he gets all that's needed to continue his treatments.
| Oden |
| I'm Oden, a senior rescue at Second Chance. I was abused as a pup and never learned to trust anyone but Bonnie. She's kept me safe for many years and I'm loyal to her till the end. I'm happy as an ambassador to all of those that cross our gates and have found my forever home here with my friends.
| Scarlet was clearly abused and has found comfort within the gates of our rescue. She has a forever home with us until she feels comfortable enough to embrace a new family.
| Munchie |
| Munchkin is one of our senior sanctuary dogs. He has been with us for over ten years. He will stay with us for as long as he needs.
| Deana |
| Trust is a common battle after life on the streets. Until Dena finds her footing, she'll always have a home with us. Any support that you can lend will go far to help us meet her needs. your support.
| Derby is a senior rescue who's a big kid at heart and is one of the first to greet all new rescues that pass through our gates. Food donations are always helpful where Derby is concerned.
| K-5 |
| K-5 was named for the location in the road where his life changed forever. He had been hit and left for dead. He had a lengthy recovery resulting in the loss of his leg. His trust is with his rescuers only at this point and that's just fine with us. He deserves to be happy and home.
| Bobby |
| Bobby came to us as an extreme abuse case and quickly found security in the protection of our shelter. Trust keeps Bobby a member of our sanctuary team and we are here for him as long as he needs. Our hope is that support will come to help us meet his forever needs.
| Carly |
| Carly is with us as a sanctuary dog due to the fact that she only has one kidney. This shelter favorite loves to play with her many friends....she's a happy girl and is clearly one of the shelter favorites. Donations in her honor to meet her dietary needs are appreciated.
| Emily |
| Little Emily is one of our senior rescues who has just now been able to overcome early medical concerns. Until we find the perfect home, she'll be safe with us.
| Snoopy |
| Snoopy was hit by a car and not only lost his leg but his trust in others. He feels safe with Bonnie and that's where he will stay until he learns others can be trusted too!
| Diva |
| Sweet Diva has been with us a while and is a senior member of our team. She suffers from incontinence and has a home with us as long as she needs.
| Buster |
While on the streets of Puerto Rico, Buster suffered spinal chord damage that has left him incontinent. He's a happy soul who brings love into the hearts of all he meets.
| Midge |
| Rescued off of the streets with no experience with trust or human compassion. Midge remains fearful of everything around her except for Bonnie. She trust Bonnie to provide her love and care....we will never fail her.
| Mahogany |
| Rescued with her pups from a dump road, this amazingly sweet three legged rescue is a true ambassador to our rescue. She requires special medication and food. Donations to assist us with her care are greatly appreciated.
| Rojo |
Rojo came close to adoption before he had his first epileptic seizure. It was at that time that we knew he'd be with us his lifetime. He's had few seizures since then, but better safe than sorry. He is happy to live out his life as part of our family.
| Dane |
| Baby Dane is a member of our small group of Great Dane's. Born to a breeder and rejected because she is deaf...we opened up our hearts and home.
A shelter favorite, Charity has been with us a long time. She battled through heartworm, venerial cancer, ulcers and skin disorders to earn her honored place at our rescue. She requires a special diet due to urinary stones and is a member of our senior team.
As an abused street dog, Topaz is not easy to open her heart. She has earned the trust of our director and has remained a loyal member of our family. Trust is her biggest roadblock and what keeps her from finding a forever family outside of our gates.
Twink is the smallest member of our sanctuary team and she struggles with trust. She is a typical, tiny, Chihuahua and if we could find a calm home for her to settle into then we believe she would have a chance. Until that day, she has a home with us.
| Largo |
Largo is one of our most senior members of Second Chance. He's seen just about everyone come and go. Trust was always something he struggled with, but now in his senior years he's finally figured it out.....we're his family now and we are with him until the end.
| Dusty |
Dusty is a member of our sanctuary team due to the simple fact that she has a chronic skin problem. As you can imagine, with a big dog comes a big appetite...any help to meet these daily needs is appreciated.
